THE FREELANCER LEADERBOARD
The leaderboard is a top list of sorts and tracks the success and reputation of all active Lancers in the area, quantifying risk versus reward as this shows who is the most likely to succeed and who is worth hiring for the job you really need to get done.
Function: Ranks all Freelancers based on their total earned credits accumulated from successfully completed missions, POI exploration and submitted lore items. This is a measure of skill, prestige and success rate.
Progression: As you rise on the board, people will take notice. Some people might even approach you specifically with missions or job offers, knowing you are the one to go to. These are often more complex but with a higher reward.
VIP section: The true bragging right. The one/team on top of the list will have access to a small VIP area in the bar.
STASHES AND VALUABLE LOOT
This mechanic covers Stashes and Valuable Loot. Stashes containing loot can be found throughout the Borderlands. Some stashes are hidden and require you to find clues or solve puzzles to find or open. The value of the loot varies and may include rare artifacts, gear, and supplies.
The information board (stashes & valuable loot)
This is where Lancers can find clues and puzzles leading to hidden stashes scattered throughout the Borderlands. The BAR and other key locations host dedicated boards with cryptic notices and challenges.
Function: Provides clues and puzzles that, when solved, reveal the location of valuable loot or hidden stashes.
Discovery: To uncover a stash, a Lancer must interpret the relevant clue or solve the puzzle found on the board. Clues and solutions may be contested or discovered by rival groups.
Loot Types: Expect to find rare supplies, valuables, information or other unique rewards.
Completion: in the case of a loot bag or loot box, the item needs to be brought back to the bar for you to receive your reward. In the case of usable in-game items, intel or other information it is immediately available for use or trade as the player see fit.
DISCOVERY OF LORE AND HISTORICAL INFORMATION - THE BOARD OF KNOWLEDGE
This board handles lore and information that contribute to the wider understanding of the Zone and its mysteries. This is where all information is gathered and presented to enrich the history of The Zone, its forgotten events, and hidden truths. Old texts, data logs, notable characters, and concealed information sources all contribute to piecing together the past events that led up to this day.
Function: The Board of Knowledge serves as a constantly growing hub for all discovered lore, scientific findings, and contextual information, allowing players to piece together fragments of The Zone’s secrets to deepen their understanding and uncover new opportunities.
Discovery: When a Lancer finds a piece of lore it is stated on the item itself via a QR-code. Scan it and then bring the code from the scan together with the item itself to the BAR in the BASE to receive your reward. You must bring both the code and the item itself to be rewarded. But beware, these are in-game items and can be robbed, looted or stolen if you are not careful. Some knowledge may require piecing together from multiple sources. Check further info in the QR-code.
Reward: When the item and code is brought to the NPC in the BAR, you will be handed a reward. Usually cash. But your, or your groups name will be written on the discovery to add to your legacy. You will also gain some reputation on the Lancer top list.
MAP OF THE BORDERLANDS - EXPLORATION & RUMORS
Located in the BAR, is the community resource for map exploration and Points of Interest (POIs). Players can explore the Borderlands, discovering Points of Interest (with QR-codes) such as abandoned buildings, military checkpoints, and mutant lairs among other things. Discovering these locations is key to finding stashes, loot, and lore.
Function: A centralized source for community contributed information regarding undiscovered POIs worth exploring or already discovered POIs that might contain lore or loot.
Rumors: The map is often decorated with short, cryptic notes and Rumor Markers placed by NPCs or game staff, hinting at recent anomaly shifts, newly discovered Loot Caches, or suspicious Faction Movements. Treat these as leads for optional, riskier endeavors.
Contribution: Lancers can contribute to the map’s accuracy. If you discover a significant change—like a new Anomaly field or the exact location of a rare resource—you can report it to the Map Keeper NPC. Accurate, verified information may earn you a small Goodwill Bonus or a minor cash reward, fostering trust with key factions.
